In a bid to ensure employee welfare, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has approved a series of initiatives aimed at supporting current and former municipal staff and their families. These decisions, announced during a Council meeting chaired by Minister Parvesh Verma, indicatel a renewed focus on humane governance and inclusive urban planning.
One of the most impactful measures is a one-time policy relaxation for the regularisation of municipal quarters allotted to the spouses or wards of retired or deceased NDMC employees. Even in cases where applications were submitted beyond the permissible timeframe, the Council has decided to waive penalties and clear outstanding dues.
This move offers long-awaited relief to families who have lived in uncertainty despite years of public service. Penalties, in some cases amounting to several lakhs of rupees, will now be completely waived.
In instances where court cases are ongoing over such housing issues, NDMC will initiate the process to withdraw
legal proceedings, further easing the burden on affected families. Officials emphasised that the initiative is not just about housing, but about recognising the legacy of employees who served the city.
The Council has also approved key allowances for medical staff, including Hospital Patient Care Allowances and Conveyance Allowances. These are meant to support frontline healthcare workers who continue to form the backbone of NDMC’s public- health efforts.
The Council also passed amendments to Recruitment Rules covering over 1,000 posts, ranging from medical staff and assistants to technical and administrative roles. In a bid to strengthen senior management, 17 deputy director roles will be merged with four joint- director positions, expanding top-level administrative capacity to 21.
These decisions are part of a development package worth Rs 135 crore under NDMC’s commitment to a governance model that values both infrastructure growth and the well-being of its workforce.
