The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has urged immediate policy intervention to protect employees as artificial intelligence continues to reshape the technology sector. The body flagged growing concerns around job losses and changing role requirements, calling for a more balanced approach to workforce transformation.
Highlighting the rise in layoffs across companies, the organisation emphasised that workforce reduction should not become the default strategy in response to automation. Instead, it has pushed for stronger focus on reskilling and redeployment, arguing that investments in AI must go hand in hand with investments in human capital.
The group also pointed to a widening gap between company performance and employee security. It noted that while businesses continue to adopt advanced technologies to drive efficiency, the impact of these transitions is disproportionately affecting workers, many of whom face uncertainty around job continuity.
In its recommendations, the body has called for stronger labour safeguards within the tech industry. These include clearer norms around notice periods, transparent severance policies, and greater accountability from employers during restructuring exercises.
The appeal comes at a time when rapid technological shifts are redefining job roles and skill expectations. Employees across the sector are increasingly under pressure to adapt, often without adequate institutional support.
The development highlights a larger challenge within the tech ecosystem. As innovation accelerates, existing labour frameworks are struggling to keep pace, leading to renewed calls for policies that can better align growth with workforce protection.
