TCS employee’s viral post highlights resistance against forced resignations

A Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee has sparked widespread debate online after sharing how he refused to step down despite being pressured by the company’s human resources team. His account, first posted on Reddit under the title “I denied my resignation in TCS”, has since gone viral, drawing attention to alleged practices within the Indian IT services firm.

The techie wrote that he was asked to resign during a closed-door meeting but declined, even as he admitted to feeling scared and vulnerable. According to him, HR officials threatened to give him a poor review after termination, but he stood firm, stating he had “nothing to lose” since TCS was his first employer.

The employee alleged that benched staff—those not currently assigned to projects—were being singled out. He claimed that their profiles were being frozen, preventing project managers from allocating them to new work. Even when opportunities were secured informally, he said, the company’s resource- management group would step in and cancel those allocations.

He further described a pattern of persistent calls and meetings with HR, where employees were allegedly pressured to resign under threats of frozen salaries, poor reviews, or blacklisting. Despite this, he noted that many colleagues have continued to resist, staying on at the company even as they struggle with uncertainty.

The viral post also criticised the firm’s culture, with the employee calling it “toxic” and claiming it had deteriorated over time. He said he had joined TCS for stability and security, but now regretted the decision.

This is not an isolated incident. Similar posts about workplace dissatisfaction have surfaced from employees of other major IT firms, including Infosys. As of now, TCS has not issued an official response to the allegations.
