Texas Instruments (TI) India has successfully concluded the fourth edition of its flagship initiative, the Women in Semiconductors and Hardware (WiSH) programme. Aimed at second-year female engineering students across India, the month-long programme is designed to spark interest in core engineering, particularly in the semiconductor and hardware sectors.
The response to this year’s edition was quite strong, with over 1,500 students registering and 190 selected participants.
It is quite clear that numbers are growing, which means awareness is growing too along with enthusiasm among young women to explore careers in the once male-dominated technical domains underrepresented by women.
The programme offered the students a mix of learning formats. The first three weeks featured virtual mentoring, technical sessions, and interactions with professionals. The final week was hosted onsite at TI’s Bengaluru campus, giving participants the opportunity to explore real-world applications through lab visits, simulations and circuit- design exercises.
Participants also benefited from one-on-one mentoring by TI’s subject-matter experts. These interactions not only built technical skills but also offered guidance on navigating careers in engineering. The programme served as a platform for students to engage with TI’s women engineers and leaders, gaining valuable insights and encouragement to pursue their ambitions.
With women still representing a small fraction of the workforce in semiconductor roles, TI continues to drive efforts toward greater gender diversity through programmes such as WiSH.
By investing in early-stage talent, the company aims to build a stronger and more inclusive semiconductor ecosystem in India.
