Reliance Retail Ventures, the retail initiative of Reliance Industries, has roped in Jeyandran Venugopal to play president and chief executive officer (CEO).
This mechanical engineer is an alumna of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
He interned with Amazon.com a software developer for a few months and then joined as senior manager, Amazon Web Services, in 2001. For the next seven years, he essayed various roles in Amazon before shifting into engineering management.
June of 2008 saw him taking up the role of director of engineering, Yahoo. Three years into this role, he was elevated to senior director, engineering. For over two years he managed two divisions of the Cloud Platforms Group at Yahoo! R&D at Bangalore. By October of 2013 he had been elevated to VP engineering.
Venugopal’s next stop was Snapdeal where he served as technology/strategy advisor for a while before he founded the healthcare startup, Eclinic247, and played CEO for over two and a half years.
June of 2017 was witness to Jeyandran Venugopal moving to Myntra Jabong as SVP and chief technology officer (CTO). He was promoted to SVP, chief product and technology officer (CPTO) by May of 2018.
His association with Flipkart began in 2019, as SVP, product and engineering (consumer shopping experience, platforms, data science, IT, Infosec). Ten months into this role, he was elevated to chief product and technology officer (CPTO). He spent close to six and a half years with Flipkart.
He was also chairperson of Nasscom’s Deeptech Council for over a year.
In his latest assignment at RRVL, Venugopal, given his strong work ethics, will prove to be an asset to the Indian retailer.
