Martin Dinesh Gomez, CHRO, Zepto, has resigned after less than a year of association with the Indian e-grocery company. In fact, he has been reportedly serving his notice period since September. Chandan Mendiratta will now step into Gomez’ shoes. Mendiratta, who was earlier chief brand officer, Zepto, will now reportedly head the HR function even while playing chief culture officer, looking after branding and employer engagement.

Gomez had moved to Zepto from Amazon, where he spent over 11 years. He joined as HR leader, India operations, in 2013. In less than five years, he was elevated to head-HR, Amazon JV Company. By 2021 he was promoted to APAC HR leader-talent programmes (TA). From 2022 to February of 2024, he played HR leader-tech TA, Amazon.

An alumnus of Madras School of Social Work, Gomez has worked with Titan, Aditi Technologies and Sapient Corporation during the initial ten years of his career. In 2005, he joined Accenture as general manager-HR, before moving to Microsoft as senior HR manager from 2007 to 2009. His next stop was Thomson Reuters where he was HR leader for technology groups from 2009 to 2012.

Known for his strong functional HR skills, Gomez will pass on the baton to Chandan Mendiratta who has been associated with Zepto for the past one year as chief brand officer and chief culture officer.

An Indian School of Business alumnus, Mendiratta holds a BTech degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He began his professional journey as an associate with Deloitte, in 2004. In 2006, he moved on to Futures First, as associate-energy trading. Five years into this role, he was promoted to head of marketing and training (India and Mauritius). For almost three years, he successfully managed a team of 10 business managers and HR managers for marketing, branding, talent acquisition and training activities across India, China, Mauritius and Kenya.

May of 2016 saw Chandan Mendiratta joining GoFro.com as director-advisor network. For the next two years, he built a team of 600+ independent advisors spread across the country, and led a team of 22 directly responsible for business development

From 2018 to 2022, he was associated with Zomato, having started off as head of sales and growth-emerging markets, online ordering and climbing up to the position of head of brand marketing by 2020.

In August 2022, Mendiratta moved on from Zomato to join Classplus as chief growth officer.

HRKatha wishes Chandan Mendiratta all the best in shouldering his new responsibilities at Zepto and also wishes Martin Dinesh Gomez good luck for his future endeavours.
