Andhra Pradesh has taken a major step toward becoming India’s green energy talent powerhouse by launching the country’s largest green-skilling initiative. With a clear focus on meeting the nation’s 500 GW renewable energy target, the initiative aims to train thousands of youths in solar and wind energy technologies.
The landmark event, ‘Empowering India’s Green Future: Andhra Pradesh as the Talent Hub for Solar and Wind Energy’, held in Vijayawada, marks the formal launch of this ambitious effort. Organised by the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and Swaniti Initiative, the event brought together over 250 industry leaders, policymakers, and development partners to build a roadmap for clean energy workforce development.
The programme will equip youth with hands-on training in the manufacturing, installation, operation, and maintenance of renewable energy systems. With an estimated 38 GW of solar and 14 GW of wind energy potential, Andhra Pradesh is well positioned to emerge as both a production hub and a source of skilled green talent.
Importantly, the initiative includes focused efforts to ensure inclusion—particularly for tribal youth, women-led Self-Help Groups, and micro-entrepreneurs. Dedicated sessions addressed how these groups can actively participate in the renewable energy economy.
Key government leaders, including HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh and Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, underlined the state’s commitment to a skills-first approach in building a sustainable economy. The event also saw the formation of a Private Sector Green Skilling Taskforce to ensure alignment between industry needs and training outcomes.
Insights and strategies from the event will shape Andhra Pradesh’s Green Skill Development Roadmap, aimed at scaling training infrastructure and creating a future-ready, resilient workforce for India’s clean energy transition.
