    Boeing to cut 17,000 jobs as part of major restructuring

    Boeing has announced a fresh round of workforce reductions, adding to the wave of layoffs seen across global industries this year. The company plans to cut approximately 10 per cent of its staff, amounting to nearly 17,000 positions.

    The move is part of a broader restructuring strategy aimed at stabilising the business amid ongoing financial and operational pressures.

    The layoffs will affect multiple levels of the organisation, including executives, middle managers, and employees across different functions. The decision comes just weeks after Kelly Ortberg stepped into the role of president and CEO. As *he* begins reshaping the company’s direction, the priority appears to be rebuilding long-term competitiveness and adjusting to shifting market conditions.

    Alongside the job cuts, Boeing is revising its product and production plans. The launch of its next major aircraft, the 777X, is being pushed to 2026 as the company reassesses timelines and resources. Production of the 767 Freighter will also come to an end once existing commitments are delivered. These changes signal a significant slowdown in some of Boeing’s major commercial programmes.

    The restructuring reflects the challenges the aerospace sector continues to face. Demand fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and the need for operational efficiency have placed sustained pressure on manufacturers. For Boeing, the combination of delayed projects and rising costs has made it necessary to undertake decisive organisational changes.

    The company aims to navigate this transition with a sharper focus on financial discipline and product readiness. While the cuts mark a difficult phase for its workforce, Boeing views the restructuring as essential for restoring momentum and ensuring its future competitiveness in the global aviation market.
