Employee’s resignation over ‘boring’ Chandigarh sparks debate

The post generated mixed reactions on LinkedIn, with several users disagreeing with the interpretation

A LinkedIn post by a Chandigarh-based executive has sparked an online debate after he shared that an employee resigned, saying the city was “too boring” compared to Delhi.

The post, shared by Jatin Gulati, COO of Praper Media, described the employee’s decision to leave after feeling that Chandigarh lacked the pace and energy associated with the national capital. While acknowledging that people have different preferences, Gulati said he believed the resignation reflected a broader mindset rather than the city itself.

According to Gulati, the experience highlighted how people often respond differently to new environments. He observed that while some individuals actively explore and adapt to unfamiliar places, others expect the environment to keep them engaged.

Drawing a parallel with the workplace, Gulati said a similar attitude is reflected in careers. He noted that some professionals focus on what they believe is missing—whether better opportunities, clients or processes—while others concentrate on making the best of the resources and circumstances available to them.

He added that no city, organisation or career is perfect, and suggested that long-term growth often depends on an individual’s ability to adapt rather than on external conditions alone.

The post generated mixed reactions on LinkedIn, with several users disagreeing with the interpretation. Many argued that the employee’s decision was more about personal preference than mindset. Others said every city offers unique opportunities and experiences for those willing to explore, while some defended Chandigarh’s quality of life and career prospects.

The discussion has reignited conversations around how location, lifestyle preferences and workplace expectations increasingly influence employees’ career decisions, particularly among younger professionals.
