Hyundai gets 80% of workforce using AI platform within a year

Hyundai Motor Group has achieved around 80 per cent adoption of its generative AI platform among general employees within a year, as the automaker accelerates its shift from digital transformation to enterprise-wide AI adoption.

More than 30,000 employees at Hyundai Motor and Kia were actively using the Group’s proprietary H Chat Pro platform as of July 2026. The platform gives employees secure access to generative AI models including ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, allowing them to use AI for tasks such as document creation, information retrieval, data analysis and software development.

The rapid uptake comes as Hyundai seeks to embed AI into everyday work rather than restrict it to specialist technology teams. Since 2025, H Chat Pro has been available to general employees across the organisation, with even non-technical employees increasingly creating AI agents tailored to specific business problems.

The Group’s AI push builds on digital- transformation efforts that began in 2019. Hyundai standardised collaboration and knowledge-sharing through platforms such as JIRA, Dooray and Confluence, while Microsoft 365 created a common cloud-based working environment. It also established a Global One Data Pipeline connecting data across research, production, quality and sales, creating the infrastructure needed for AI-driven decision-making.

The company is now applying AI directly to business operations, with measurable productivity gains across engineering, manufacturing and customer service.

In R&D, a Crash Safety AI Assistant allows engineers to search and analyse historical crash-test data, images and engineering research. The system has reduced the time spent identifying relevant cases and reviewing materials by around 90 per cent.

In manufacturing, Hyundai and Kia have deployed an AI-based automation- recognition service across around 70 production processes in Korea, the US, Europe, India and the Asia-Pacific region. The system uses cameras and vision AI to verify vehicle- identification numbers in real time and is generating annual cost savings of approximately KRW 5.24 billion ($3.9 million).

Another AI system uses reinforcement learning to optimise routes for parts-transfer carts on production lines, reducing unnecessary production downtime by around 86 per cent .

Artificial intelligence is also being used in service operations. Hyundai, Kia and Genesis technicians at overseas service centres are using an LLM-based maintenance- support system to diagnose vehicle issues and identify recommended solutions, cutting maintenance response time by around 42 per cent.

Customer service has seen similar gains. An AI system that categorises customer reviews, drafts responses and flags issues for human intervention has reduced the average processing time for a review from 35 minutes to about five minutes. Hyundai plans to automate the process further from September.

The Group is also training employees and senior leaders in AI while encouraging them to share use cases through internal communities and forums.
