Women account for 43 per cent of the workforce in India’s Ayush services sector, with their representation exceeding 50 per cent across several organised segments, according to a report released by the Ministry of Ayush.

The Ayush Service Sector Report, prepared by the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), was released on Ayurveda Day 2026. It highlights women’s growing participation across healthcare delivery, education, wellness and allied services.

Female representation is highest in spas and wellness resorts, where women account for more than 60 per cent of the workforce. They make up 58 per cent of employees in educational institutions, 57 per cent in day-care centres and 53 per cent in hospitals, according to the report.

The findings point to the role of Ayush establishments in creating employment opportunities for women across different segments of the healthcare and wellness economy.

The sector was valued at $36.92 billion in the financial year 2024–25, having recorded a compound annual growth rate of 16.91 per cent since FY2022–23. It directly supports around 1.76 million livelihoods across healthcare, wellness, education and related services.

More than one million livelihoods are concentrated in local and standalone clinics, highlighting the sector’s employment footprint across urban and rural areas.

Standalone clinics are also the largest revenue-generating segment, contributing an estimated $16.21 billion, or 43.9 per cent of total sector revenue. Day-care centres generated another $10.13 billion. Together, the two segments account for more than 70 per cent of the sector’s revenue.

Union Minister of State for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav said the sector’s expansion was creating employment opportunities across multiple domains, including entrepreneurship and skill development, while enabling greater participation of women in the workforce.

The report highlights the growing economic contribution of Ayush services and the role of organised establishments in providing employment across healthcare and wellness-related occupations.
