Aimtron Electronics plans to increase its direct workforce in Gujarat from 175 employees to around 500 over the next three to four years as it expands manufacturing capacity in Vadodara. The expansion is expected to create employment opportunities across manufacturing, engineering, quality, operations and related functions.
The electronics manufacturing company is investing Rs 100 crore in a greenfield facility in Waghodia, Vadodara, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Aimtron Mechatronics. The facility will install six surface mount technology (SMT) lines in phases, expanding the company’s capabilities in mechatronics, testing, automation, box-build manufacturing and system integration.
The investment is expected to help Aimtron undertake larger and more complex manufacturing programmes alongside its existing printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) operations. Gujarat has been central to the company’s manufacturing presence in India since it entered the state in 2011. Production began in 2012, followed by the inauguration of its Waghodia GIDC facility in September 2015.
Aimtron currently operates five SMT lines in Gujarat and one in Bengaluru. Its step-down subsidiary, Aimtron International Controls LLC, operates four SMT lines in Decatur, the US.
The company sees growing opportunities as manufacturers incorporate more electronics into electric vehicles, mobility systems, industrial automation and connected equipment. Its automotive portfolio includes electric vehicle chargers, onboard chargers, battery- management systems, battery control units and climate systems. Its industrial applications include monitoring systems, pump controllers, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning electronics, fuel-dispenser PCBAs and pressure switches.
Alongside its capacity expansion, Aimtron supports talent development through the Aimtron Foundation’s corporate social responsibility initiatives. Its engagement with Parul University and other academic institutions provides students with industrial visits and practical exposure to electronics manufacturing.
The company also plans to deepen localisation and backward integration by expanding mechanical manufacturing and system-integration capabilities.
