Dell Technologies’ employees are not very happy, and this has been revealed by an internal survey, aptly called Tell Dell. And what exactly have the employees told Dell? They shared that they are exhausted, bogged down by work stress and are worried about their jobs. Add to this the discontentment caused by the return-to-office mandate, and that is enough to bring the Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) tumbling.
The score that measures satisfaction levels has dropped to 32, which is quite a significant fall considering it was 63 in 2023 and 48 in 2024. Managers seem to be highly supportive but the workforce, on the whole, is tired. In fact, the Leader Net Promoter Score was satisfyingly high at 76, which means the employees aren’t complaining about lack of managerial support although trust in the organisation seems to be eroding.
In March, it was reported that Dell Technologies had reduced its workforce by 10 per cent in the 2025 fiscal, bringing its headcount down to approximately 1.08 lakh employees from around 1.20 lakh the previous year. The move was said to be part of the company’s ongoing cost-cutting measures, including limiting external hiring and reorganising staff. Last year, that is, in 2024, Dell’s workforce had already decreased by around five per cent.
Therefore, job uncertainty is not really surprising since the American tech company— that develops, sells, repairs, and supports personal computers, servers, data-storage devices, network switches, software computer peripherals, printers, webcams and so on—has laid off a good number of employees in the recent past. Additionally, it has been focusing more on artificial intelligence (AI) too across the company. Employees have reportedly complained about lack of transparency and about leaders not taking their concerns seriously.
Seeing the results of the survey, Jenn Saavedra, the company’s chief HR officer has reportedly assured that measures will be taken to restore employee trust, increase transparency and also ensure that systems are in place for employees to be heard. Quarterly feedback sessions are also being planned.
