Accenture warns employees over desk booking as office space tightens

The company has also begun tracking instances where employees arrive without confirmed reservations

Accenture has issued a strict directive to its India workforce, cautioning that employees who come to the office without pre-booking a desk may face disciplinary action. The move reflects growing pressure on workspace capacity as hybrid work models evolve.

In an internal communication earlier this month, the company emphasised that employees must reserve seats in advance to access office facilities. Bookings are required at least a day prior, with a set deadline to ensure availability. The company has also begun tracking instances where employees arrive without confirmed reservations, signalling tighter enforcement of the policy.

The change has had a ripple effect on daily operations. Employees without confirmed desk bookings are reportedly unable to access office-linked services such as transport, adding another layer of compliance to the process.

Accenture currently follows a flexible hybrid model without fixed in-office days. However, the need for advance booking suggests a mismatch between workforce size and available seating. The company is focusing on optimising office usage by ensuring that space is allocated efficiently rather than left underutilised.

While the company maintains that the policy is aimed at improving planning and consistency in the workplace experience, some employees view it as restrictive. Those who prefer working from the office more frequently may find it difficult to do so without guaranteed access to seating.

The development also points to a broader industry trend. Despite tighter workspace controls, Accenture has indicated plans to continue onboarding entry-level talent in the current financial year.

The shift highlights the balancing act companies face between cost efficiency and employee flexibility in a hybrid work environment.
