The Andhra Pradesh government is preparing to overhaul its medical reimbursement system for employees and pensioners, aiming to make the process faster, fully digital, and more transparent. The reform is designed to eliminate delays and reduce the need for multiple office visits during claim settlements.
The current system relies on a mix of manual and digital steps, which often leads to delays. Pensioners, who currently depend entirely on manual processes, are likely to benefit the most.
The new system, being developed by the Andhra Pradesh Centre for Financial Systems and Services, will digitise the entire workflow. It will be integrated with the existing Nidhi portal, which already holds detailed employee records. Once implemented, claims will move seamlessly from submission to approval and final payment through a single online platform.
The initiative is being rolled out under the direction of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, with oversight from Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav. The government aims to complete hospital onboarding and related formalities by 30 April.
Under the revised process, hospitals will directly upload treatment details and bills through a dedicated login system to the Dr NTR Vaidya Seva Trust. After medical verification by experts, approved claims will be sent to the respective department heads for administrative clearance, and then to drawing officers for payment processing.
The scale of the reform is substantial. The state covers over 5.5 lakh employees and more than 2.3 lakh pensioners under its health scheme, along with their dependents. In the last financial year alone, reimbursement claims worth over Rs 230 crore were processed.
