Semiconductor giant AMD is ramping up hiring and investing heavily in local infrastructure in India. Over the past three years, the company has doubled its workforce in the country, with plans underway to cross the 10,000-employee mark within the next couple of years.
India has emerged as a key hub for AMD’s research and development activities, supported thanks to the country’s robust talent pool and a long-standing presence spanning two decades. The company has grown rapidly here with engineering centres across Bengaluru, Hyderabad and other tech hotspots. It has established a strong leadership and tech-expertise pipeline.
In 2023, AMD had announced intentions to invest $400 million in India over five-year period. Part of this investment funded a new state-of-the-art TechnoStar design centre in Bengaluru, which was completed in late 2024. The facility is expected to bolster AMD’s global innovation efforts, particularly in chip design and artificial intelligence.
AMD is also partnering with Indian academic institutions to support next-generation tech research. The company has collaborated with universities, including the Indian Institute of Science, to install AI-testing clusters that let students and researchers explore cutting-edge technologies across devices and applications.
Given the rate at which it is expanding the team and infrastructure here, with focus on innovation, it is clear that India is a cornerstone of AMD’s global strategy.
