ClickUp CEO introduces million-dollar pay bands for high-impact employees

The approach reflects a growing focus on rewarding employees who can leverage AI to amplify productivity and create disproportionate business outcomes

Cloud productivity platform, ClickUp is rethinking how employee value and compensation will be measured in an AI-driven workplace, with founder and CEO Zeb Evans outlining a new talent philosophy centred on impact rather than traditional role structures.

In a detailed statement shared online, Evans described artificial intelligence as a force that is fundamentally changing how companies operate and how employee contributions will increasingly be evaluated. He argued that conventional productivity measures may no longer reflect the value employees create in AI-enabled workplaces.

One of the most notable shifts announced by the company is a new compensation approach that includes salary bands reaching up to $1 million annually for employees who generate what Evans described as outsized impact using AI tools and systems. The model signals a move away from conventional compensation frameworks tied largely to tenure, hierarchy, or fixed role definitions.

The approach reflects a growing focus on rewarding employees who can leverage AI to amplify productivity and create disproportionate business outcomes. According to the vision outlined by Evans, employees who successfully direct AI systems, manage intelligent agents, and redesign workflows could become increasingly valuable within future organisations.

The CEO also suggested that job structures themselves are beginning to evolve. Traditional boundaries between functions such as engineering, design, and product management are becoming less rigid as AI enables broader and more integrated ways of working. New categories of roles are also beginning to emerge, particularly around managing and orchestrating AI systems.

At the centre of the discussion is a wider workplace shift: moving from measuring effort to measuring impact. As organisations increasingly integrate AI into everyday work, compensation systems may also begin rewarding employees based on outcomes, adaptability, and their ability to effectively combine human judgment with AI capabilities.

At the same time, Evans maintained that despite rapid technological change, areas requiring human interaction, trust, and customer engagement will continue to hold lasting value in the future workplace.
