DTDC Express, an Indian integrated logistics company, has opened its first all-women-operated dark store in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This part of the company’s efforts to blend innovation, inclusivity and operational excellence within India’s fast-growing rapid-commerce sector.
The 700 sq. ft. facility, part of DTDC’s Raftaar rapid commerce service, is fully managed by a team of women handling end-to-end operations — from inventory management and last-mile delivery to cash-on-delivery services and client engagement. The store is designed to fulfill orders within two to six hours, offering a two-hour turnaround for select deliveries.
Before taking charge, the women employees received extensive training in DTDC’s Warehouse Management System (WMS), last-mile delivery protocols, and rapid-commerce tools to ensure speed and precision in execution.
Describing the new facility as the company’s ‘Dream Store’, Abhishek Chakraborty, CEO, DTDC said, “This initiative represents what the future of logistics can look like — fast, inclusive, and value-driven. Empowering women in logistics isn’t just about equality; it’s about creating dynamic, high-performing teams that redefine efficiency.”
He added that as DTDC marks its 35th year, it is reimagining its network to serve the surging demand from India’s Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. “Through DTDC Raftaar, we’re enabling D2C and mid-sized brands to deliver faster through a ‘dark store as a service’ model without heavy investments,” he said.
Ankita Tiwari, chief human resources officer, highlighted the cultural significance of the launch: “We’re not just opening a new facility; we’re opening new possibilities. This all-women store stands as a symbol of confidence, capability and inclusion.”
With the Indore dark store, DTDC further expands its presence across key Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Cochin, and Bhopal, reinforcing its mission to build a future-ready and inclusive logistics ecosystem.
