An IT employee association has urged the Central government to investigate workplace safety practices at a Nashik-based technology firm following serious complaints from women employees. Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has written to Union labour minister Mansukh Mandaviya, calling for a detailed audit of the company’s adherence to the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act.
The request comes after multiple employees approached the police with allegations that include sexual harassment and coercion. NITES has asked for a comprehensive review of all complaints filed over the past several years. This includes cases that were resolved, are still pending, or were dismissed. The body has also called for scrutiny of how the company’s HR teams and senior leadership handled these cases.
In its communication, the group has raised concerns about possible suppression of complaints. It has asked authorities to examine whether employees were discouraged from reporting incidents or faced retaliation after doing so. Alongside the company-specific probe, NITES has pushed for a broader audit of POSH compliance across IT firms operating in Maharashtra.
The company at the centre of the allegations has stated that it follows a strict zero-tolerance approach towards harassment. It said immediate action was taken once the issue came to light. Employees under investigation have been suspended while inquiries are underway.
NITES has further recommended an inspection of internal grievance systems, including the functioning of complaint committees. It has also highlighted the need to assess working conditions such as long hours, shift structures, and their impact on employee wellbeing.
The body has urged the government to introduce periodic compliance audits and mandatory reporting for IT companies to strengthen accountability and workplace safety standards.
