Employees working under the National Health Mission (NHM) in Jammu and Kashmir have once again brought attention to their long-standing demand foraa clear and comprehensive regularisation policy. The Jammu and Kashmir National Health Mission Employees Association (JKNHMEA) said the issue has remained unresolved for years, despite repeated appeals and the critical role played by NHM staff in public healthcare delivery across the Union Territory.
According to the Association, thousands of NHM employees have been serving continuously for nearly 18 years in demanding conditions, particularly in remote and underserved areas. Yet, many continue to work without permanent status, job security, or access to basic service benefits and social security protections. The Association stressed that these workers form the backbone of the public health system, supporting government hospitals and health programmes at the grassroots level.
With the upcoming Assembly session scheduled to begin on 2 February, 2026, the Association has urged elected representatives to take up the matter on priority. It has appealed to Members of the Legislative Assembly to raise the concerns of NHM employees on the floor of the House and push for a policy decision that ensures long-term security for the workforce.
The Association stated that it represents more than 12,000 NHM employees spread across various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, covering a wide range of roles essential to healthcare delivery. Despite their contribution, the absence of a regularisation framework has left employees facing uncertainty about their future.
