State Bank of India (SBI) has launched an annual employee excellence award titled ‘SBI STAR’ (Staff Talent Acknowledgement & Recognition) — a structured framework designed to honour employees for their achievements beyond their professional responsibilities. This initiative underscores SBI’s long-standing commitment to promoting holistic employee engagement, well-being, and organisational pride by celebrating talents in arts, literature, sports, culture, social work, and environmental initiatives.

The launch of SBI STAR reflects the bank’s belief that employees’ identities extend far beyond their roles, and that personal passions and social contributions are integral to a fulfilling workplace culture. The initiative seeks to celebrate the multi-faceted talents of SBI’s workforce, reinforcing pride, inclusion, and motivation across the organisation.

SBI has long witnessed inspiring examples of creativity, resilience, and determination among its employees, who have excelled in diverse fields beyond their professional responsibilities. From individuals who have pursued higher education while balancing work, to those who have overcome physical challenges to achieve extraordinary milestones in sports, social service, and community impact — such stories exemplify the depth of talent and passion that thrive within the organisation. These achievements highlight how SBI’s workforce continues to embody a spirit of perseverance, innovation, and purpose that extends far beyond the workplace.

Designed with fairness and transparency, the SBI STAR framework allows employees to self-nominate, following which each Circle or Vertical will evaluate and shortlist candidates based on defined criteria. The final selection will be undertaken by the Corporate Centre in Mumbai, ensuring a comprehensive and structured recognition process.

Through SBI STAR, the bank aims to strengthen its culture of appreciation by valuing employees as complete individuals — professionals, creators, and contributors to society. With a workforce of more than 2.45 lakh employees, the largest in India’s BFSI sector, this initiative is expected to further enhance engagement, motivation, and organisational pride across all levels of SBI.
