TCS faces employee protest over layoffs and new deployment rules in Bengaluru

The Indian IT services company, it is claimed, has dismissed more than 12,000 employees in recent months

The IT & ITES Democratic Employees Association (IIDEA) staged a protest outside Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) Whitefield campus on Friday, 5 September. The employees voiced disapproval of the large-scale layoffs and recently-introduced workplace policies.

According to the association, the Indian IT services company has dismissed more than 12,000 employees in recent months. Alongside this, a new deployment policy now requires staff to log 225 billable days annually, a move the group argues will add to workload stress while creating uncertainty around job security.

IIDEA also raised concerns about delays in onboarding new hires. The association highlighted the case of over 500 professionals who received offer letters with July 2025 joining dates but are still awaiting confirmation. Many of these candidates, it said, had already left previous jobs, leaving them without steady income or clarity about their future.

The protest underscored broader anxieties in India’s IT sector as automation and artificial intelligence reshape business models. The union argued that such technologies should reduce work strain and improve balance, rather than displace employees. It called on TCS to focus on reskilling, shortening extended work hours, and ensuring stability for its workforce during the transition.

As part of its demands, IIDEA urged the company to immediately halt layoffs, stop pressuring employees to resign, and provide fair severance benefits along with healthcare and transition support for those affected.

Tata Consultancy Services has not issued a public response to the protest or the concerns raised. The demonstration comes at a time when major IT firms are navigating slowing global demand, changing skill requirements, and growing pressure to manage costs while preparing for the next phase of digital transformation.

Exactly, no prior intimation and not even giving employee to look out for mean time, as my elder brother working Manager came and updated him you are fired kindly sing and leave, as he requested atleast give me a week time, as I’ve already been waiting to get reply from the client side, Manager said if you sing it will be good else will update as termination. So he sings on the paper and left immediately after 2 days got call from the client side to come abroad.

If he is not a good employee he will not get a call.

So this is not about something they work it is something which relates to manager and HR finding the person that if manager don’t like the his subordinate they are giving they name, ridiculous.

GREED. No wonder IT has both become an industrial power like Steel, Oil and other industries. The moment you have any India ( ORIGIN) CEO – RUN AWAY – they are only CEOs as they have the selfishness and greed and 0 (Zero) Officer Like Qualities to be able to deliver and growth other than LAYOFFS. USA and European CEOs just give out of the way as they will never do such bad karma.

Very harsh. That is what happens when a leader like Ratan Tata is not here.o heard the stories from TCS friends. Very frustrating and cruel scenarios with targetting employees.

When these buggers were getting fat salaries for zilch work, they didn’t complain. Those of us in mfg sector got knocked into some low to mid level salaries and were mocked by these IT guys. They strutted around Bengaluru with each fellows staggering more vulgar than another. Now it has crashed. Good. If TCS a quasi govt sector has to kick out people, then there is stress. No tears for these creeps. Ditto for indians and their parents who are getting screwed by Trump. Crowing of their abilities is about to be binned by stupid AI codes. Imagine being kicked out by cyber junk program. Id fight chinese competition anyday and win

This has become fate of employees in MNC who are sincere tax payers as tge tax is deducted beforeeven the salaryis credited to our account. There is no job security or any support from Government. Government should support during this time for laid off employees by returning part of their tax paid money until they get another job.

It’s all because of making a senior resource with engineering mindset with no knowledge of business as the CEO.
All these horrible things didn’t happen when it was under Ramadorai or Chandra or Rajesh.
Hope TCS will come out of this soon.

Even they are not providing any project to the released employees whether they have any critical requirements in any project, not a single person is getting project. And after waiting for few days HRs are calling them and asking for the resign.

With due concern for delay in implementing offers, why at all TCS should issue offers while planning layoffs. The lucrative business margins of software gone, with USA hard on Indian obligations on tariffs. Now USA target inflow of software, Indian is worst hit both locally and internationally.
TCS took long lease of workspace at Electronic City @66 per sq ft, highly valued with impending second airport of TN nearby.
All sectors of overseas services sourced by foreign companies are cutting or stagnating salary while freshers taken at 1.5 X.
      Tallent matters.

My friend who was on maternity leave, got back to TCS office only to be asked to resign. Imagine! The amount of life-altering pressure a new mother goes through only for her company to pull the rug out from under her. She was asked to resign within 2 days. When she asked for a week’s time to look for a project, she was told in that case you will not receive 3 months’ severance. How atrocious.

Stop your noice in front of any office since you people are signed up as management policy. There is a way to bring management policy into dark side of labour act.How All can think about it…TRY TRULY NOT ALLOWING ANY ONE OF IT’ INDUSTRY TO ATTEND THEIR OWN JOBS UNLESS AND UNTIL MANAGEMENT GIVES INDIVIDUAL ORDER BY NOT REMAINING ANY EMPLOYEES AFTER THEIR PROBATION PERIOD..AND PERMANENT ORDER SHOULD BE GIVEN AS DECLARED AS PERMANENT STAFF WITH THE LABOUR LAW.

For donkey’s years Employees in IT sector were slaving it out at the mercy of the owners/ management. Being a veteran since the 80s I have seen and felt the virtual stiffling of the employees either to the line or forced separation. I am now thrilled to see the Employees unite and raise a collective protest.

When this kind layoff happens then company doesn’t require SEZ lands and.buildings. then they must return to either government or layoff employees equally or final option that whatever loans employees have it must clear by company or waiver.
Or if company is layoff employees then employees remained service period salary given as compensation.

An alternate thought! Within industry, everyone saw this coming. US economy slowdown+ AI, 10000s of layoffs in US IT cos, all were warning bells. And everyone in IT knows their jobs aren’t permanent.

Some prepared, some didn’t and some are laid off unjustly. It’s the reality of the IT (or any) sector. What is use of any employee sitting on bench for long? And this is not really new. Several companies have done in the past, the scale is new.

All the best for people who lost their jobs.

My daughter works for TCS she has worked very hard and long hours her manager put high pressure and as mentioned if they don’t like you then they will put you under very high load of work and treatment is like treating worst than a dog ? manager comes late to work and has coffee takes a nap at his or her desk watches things or videos has good fun on his phone and then when He or she is bored start yelling at the subordinate to complete His or her work. Even at the so called weekend my daughter is busy working running from kitchen to laptop. No time for washroom. Sleeps after 3.00am – 4.00am and again rush to office in the morning before she leaves she has to see to all her house hold requirements for the family. But yet manager is not happy not one word of appreciation. At the time of appraisal she doesn’t get any thing.
I feel very upset to see how she is struggling but just to make 2 ends meet they suffer. ?
