Infosys has moved to clarify speculation circulating on social media about an alleged immigration incident involving one of its employees in the US, calling the claims factually incorrect and misleading.
The issue surfaced after a post on X gained traction, alleging that a Mysuru-based Infosys employee on an on-site assignment in the US had been detained by immigration authorities and pressured to leave the country. The post further suggested mistreatment during transit and hinted at possible legal action by the company. The claims triggered concern among employees and industry watchers, given the heightened sensitivity around work visas and overseas assignments.
Addressing the matter during the company’s third-quarter earnings call on 14 January, Salil Parekh, chief executive officer and managing director, Infosys, made it clear that no such incident had taken place. The company stated that none of its employees had been detained, deported or apprehended by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement or any other American authority.
Infosys clarified that the confusion may have stemmed from an unrelated and routine immigration outcome. Several months earlier, one employee had been denied entry into the US at the border and returned to India, a process the company described as administrative rather than punitive. Infosys emphasised that such cases are not uncommon in global mobility and should not be misconstrued as detentions or enforcement actions.
The clarification came alongside the release of Infosys’ financial results for the October–December quarter. The company reported a net profit of Rs 6,654 crore, marking a sequential decline of 9.6 per cent from the previous quarter and coming in below market expectations.
The company’s response aimed to put an end to speculation and reassure stakeholders amid the rapid spread of unverified narratives online.
