Tata Electronics has rapidly scaled up its operations, reaching a workforce of nearly 75,000 employees. With this expansion, it has overtaken Foxconn in India by headcount, emerging as the largest manufacturing partner for Apple in the country.
The growth marks a sharp rise from about 15,000 employees in 2023. A major contributor to this expansion is the company’s large manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, which has been ramping up production to meet increasing global demand for iPhones. The workforce also includes employees from facilities acquired from Pegatron and Wistron, strengthening its manufacturing footprint.
The expansion reflects a focused push to achieve global scale and meet Apple’s strict production and quality requirements. It also signals the company’s ambition to position itself as a key player in the global electronics manufacturing services ecosystem.
Industry observers view this milestone as significant, especially given that Tata Electronics began operations only in 2020. The company’s rapid rise highlights the growing capabilities of Indian firms in a sector traditionally dominated by East Asian players.
While Tata Electronics currently leads in workforce size, Foxconn is expected to regain the top position once its upcoming facility in Devanahalli becomes fully operational later this year.
The development comes alongside India’s increasing role in Apple’s global supply chain. Strong policy support, including production-linked incentives, along with rising localisation and skilled talent, has helped accelerate this shift. Going forward, Tata Electronics is expected to focus on deeper manufacturing capabilities, supply-chain strength, and higher-value segments such as semiconductor assembly and advanced packaging.
