NTPC has elevated Premlata as executive director (HR), strengthening its people leadership with an HR veteran who brings more than 35 years of experience across the power sector. In her new role, Premlata will help drive NTPC’s people agenda, with a focus on talent development, leadership capability building, organisational effectiveness, employee relations, performance management and wworkforce-transformation initiatives across the Maharatna PSU.
Prior to this elevation, she served as chief general manager and regional head-HR for NTPC’s Western Region-II, while simultaneously holding the position of chief human resources officer, NTPC-SAIL Power Company (NSPCL), the joint venture between NTPC and SAIL. In these roles, she led strategic HR interventions covering workforce planning, employee engagement, organisational development and talent management across multiple business units.
A significant part of her leadership journey has been associated with NSPCL, where she played a key role in advancing HR transformation initiatives, strengthening performance- management systems, enhancing employee engagement and driving leadership development programmes across the organisation’s operations.
Premlata’s association with NTPC spans over three decades, having joined the company as an Executive Trainee (Personnel) in 1990. Over the years, she progressed through various leadership positions, including officer (HR), senior manager (HR), additional general manager (HR), AGM (HR), general manager (HR) and chief general manager (HR), building deep expertise across the entire spectrum of human resources management.
Her experience spans diverse business environments, including thermal, hydro and gas-based operations, joint ventures and acquired projects across different regions of India. She has also served on the boards of NTPC group companies, further expanding her leadership exposure beyond the HR function.
With extensive experience in strategic HR planning, industrial relations, organisational development and workforce capability building, Premlata is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping NTPC’s future-ready people strategy as the company navigates evolving business and workforce priorities.
She holds a Design Thinking Certificate from MIT Sloan School of Management and has been recognised for aligning people practices with business objectives while fostering organisational excellence and sustainable growth.
