More than 100 Google employees gathered outside the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, calling for stronger job security measures and improved protections against layoffs.
During the demonstration, union representatives submitted a petition signed by 4,500 workers to CEO Sundar Pichai and other senior executives, urging the company to introduce policies that provide greater employment stability.
The employees are seeking enhanced layoff protections, including guaranteed severance packages, the removal of performance-based ranking quotas and the option to receive severance as extended paid leave.
The protest comes amid continued workforce reductions across the technology sector, as companies restructure operations and increase investments in artificial intelligence. Employees argued that greater job security would help foster collaboration, innovation and long-term productivity.
The demonstration reflects a broader trend of employees seeking greater transparency and support during organisational restructuring. Across the technology industry, workers have increasingly voiced concerns over job stability, performance- management practices and the impact of repeated layoffs on workplace morale.
Google had not publicly responded to the employees’ demands.
