Rakesh Mehta, a veteran human resources leader with more than three decades of experience, has resigned as president and chief human resource officer (CHRO) of Welspun Corp. His resignation, on personal grounds, took effect on 2 November, 2026. Mehta was also a member of the company’s senior management personnel.

Mehta joined Welspun Corp in October 2025, bringing extensive experience in leading people functions across large, complex businesses. He has committed to supporting a smooth transition and handover to his successor.

His departure marks the latest chapter in a career spanning more than 33 years, during which he has held senior HR leadership positions at organisations including Uno Minda, JSW Energy, Reliance Industries and General Motors.

Before joining Welspun Corp, Mehta was group CHRO and executive director at Uno Minda, where he served from April 2024 to September 2025. Prior to that, he spent over five years at JSW Energy as executive vice president and Head of HR, from December 2018 to April 2024.

Between October 2015 and December 2018, he was senior vice president and head of HR for the refining business cluster at Reliance Industries, based in Jamnagar.

A significant part of Mehta’s career was spent at General Motors, where he worked for over eight years.

He joined the company as general manager – HR in September 2007 and went on to become director – human resources in April 2010, a position he held until October 2015.

Earlier, he spent over four years at Asian Paints, progressing from manager – HR to senior manager – HR between July 2003 and September 2007. He also worked with Guardian Industries as executive – HR from July 1999 to July 2003 and with Crompton Greaves as personnel executive from July 1995 to July 1999.

Mehta began his HR career at Rallis India in July 1993 as an executive – HR and subsequently served as assistant manager – HR until July 1995.

Across these assignments, his experience has covered human resources leadership in the manufacturing, automotive, refining and energy sectors, with responsibilities spanning large-scale and operationally intensive businesses.

Mehta holds a postgraduate qualification in Human Resource Management from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune, which he completed in 1993. He was named the institute’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 2026.
