The Central government has redeployed nearly 65,000 former Ordnance Factory employees into regular government service, providing long-term employment security following the restructuring and corporatisation of the Ordnance Factory Board.
According to an official statement, the development was highlighted by Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh during his interaction with a 19-member delegation from the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) and its affiliated organisations. The meeting focused on issues related to government employees, pensioners and administrative reforms.
The delegation reportedly welcomed the government’s decision, saying it addressed one of the key concerns arising from the corporatisation of the Ordnance Factory Board. The move is expected to ensure service continuity and long-term job security for thousands of employees affected by the restructuring.
The delegation included representatives from the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh (BPMS), Government Employees National Confederation (GENC), Public Sector Employees National Confederation, SHAR Employees Trade Union and the Space Employees Association.
The official statement said the employee representatives also raised several pending service-related issues, including extending the benefits of the Old Pension Scheme to employees appointed on compassionate grounds, career progression, cadre-related matters and wider stakeholder consultations on personnel reforms. They also sought simplification of administrative procedures to reduce litigation and facilitate quicker resolution of employee grievances.
According to the statement, Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing issues concerning government employees and pensioners through continued consultation with stakeholders. He said suggestions aimed at improving governance, simplifying procedures and enhancing administrative efficiency would receive due consideration.
The delegation also expressed confidence that the government would continue engaging with recognised employee organisations while pursuing reforms related to service conditions, pensions and personnel management.
