Infosys has terminated a male employee after he was caught filming a woman inside a restroom at its Bengaluru office. The disturbing incident, which occurred on 30 June, has sparked outrage and raised concerns about workplace safety and privacy.
The accused, identified as a 28-year-old from Maharashtra, was confronted after a female colleague noticed suspicious movement in the adjacent restroom cubicle. She saw a reflection indicating someone was filming her. Shocked, she raised an alarm, prompting other employees to intervene and prevent the accused from escaping.
Infosys acted promptly contacted the police. The company has reportedly supported the woman employee in filing a legal case and is cooperating fully with the investigation.
During an initial inspection, human resource personnel found a video of the complainant on the accused’s phone. Although the clip was deleted, a screenshot was preserved as evidence. A deeper examination of the phone threw up more than 30 objectionable videos of different women, suggesting a repeated pattern of misconduct.
Following the discovery, the woman filed an official complaint with the Electronics City police on 1 July. The accused has since been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
Infosys has reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe workplace free from harassment. The company emphasised that it enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy for any form of misconduct or breach of privacy.
This incident has shocked many within the IT community and reignited discussions about strengthening surveillance, reporting mechanisms, and support systems to protect employees, especially women, in corporate environments.
