TCS rejects reddit allegations of forcing early retirement on employee

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has denied allegations circulating on social media that it forced a long-serving employee into early retirement without severance pay. The company called the claims “absolutely incorrect and false,” pushing back against a Reddit post that has stirred debate about labour practices in India’s IT sector.

The controversy began after a Reddit user alleged that their brother, who had worked with TCS for nearly three decades, was abruptly asked to retire in June. According to the post, the employee was given just 20 minutes to choose between early retirement or termination, with no severance pay or compensation offered. The individual, now over 50 years old, was said to be struggling to find new employment opportunities in a market perceived as unfavourable for senior professionals.

The post contrasted the alleged incident with TCS’s ongoing layoffs, under which more than 12,000 employees are reportedly receiving severance and compensation packages. It claimed the veteran employee received ‘zero severance’ despite his long tenure.

The thread, which attracted more than 700 upvotes, drew strong reactions. Several users suggested the employee may have been pressured into resignation to avoid severance obligations. Others pointed to provisions under Indian labour law, including entitlement to 15 days of wages per year of service under the Industrial Disputes Act, as well as gratuity payments that could apply in such cases.

Some commenters advised approaching the Karnataka IT Union (KITU), which has already filed a case against TCS over job cuts. The discussion has highlighted rising concerns about job security and fair treatment, particularly for older employees, in India’s private sector.

While TCS has dismissed the Reddit account as false, the claims have intensified scrutiny of employment practices in the country’s IT industry.

Boycott tcs jobs in future from today even they offer attractive package.
When a struggle comes who take care of his employees will be a good employer.
TCS lost its position in this regard .

But this is true and every tcs employee in every office knows this truth.
TCS is retiring senior people forcefully for mid level associates they are sending them in bench and making sure that they don’t get project somewhere so that they can be released after 35 days.
Even if someone is trying to get the project, RMG is calling them in backend and asking not to allocate him.

Me and my friends faced worst threatening from TITAN COMPANY LTD in 2016. So many are jobless now. They have POWER can do anything.

I am still working in Tcs. Actually myself and one of my other employee C3A band allocated in onsite project and we were in the process of getting work permit visa and medical test. Without any reason the project asked us to release from the process both of us. My friend was C3A grade and myself C2 grade. Within 12 days of release date the rmg hr asked him to resign forcefully. His base location is hyderabad, mine is chennai. 2nd September was his last date with tcs. I am c2 grade so they didn’t touch me. So C3A AND C3B grade are they are focusing and i am surprised why high senior level people C4 level they are not touching. Since they are getting more salary than us. Weekly 5 to 6 removal happens in my location as per my other collage newz.

TCS management specially the Delivery Leaders are giving threat to their employees of sending names to fluidity list and giving the mental pressure and harrasing them on daily basis….this should be stopped immediately and people like Anil Awasthi should be thrown out of the company for better employment in future each and every employee extremely disappointed on this person.

TCS becomes very cruel after demises of Ratan Tats. One of my friend mentioned that he is working since 20 years in TCS thnking that TCS is a job secure company and did not quite to any other company for higher salary. But, same company is spoiling them by removing jobs. Worst company.
