Vedanta Aluminium has launched a month-long campaign titled #TarakkiKiTaiyaari in the lead-up to International Women’s Day 2026, highlighting the importance of women’s participation in shaping India’s industrial future. The initiative will feature expert sessions, health programmes and community outreach activities across operations in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The campaign will bring together well-known personalities including Kiran Bedi and Arunima Sinha to interact with employees. In addition to leadership talks, the programme includes volunteer-led initiatives, medical camps and engagements with communities around the company’s operational sites.
The effort comes at a time when women remain underrepresented in India’s metals, mining and manufacturing sectors. Vedanta Aluminium is working to expand female participation across its workforce and leadership pipeline. Currently, women make up about 21 per cent of its workforce, with a target to increase representation to 30 per cent by 2030. To support this goal, the company has prioritised hiring women for half of all entry-level roles.
Over the past few years, the company has introduced several initiatives to increase women’s participation in technical and operational roles. These include commissioning India’s first fully women-operated potline at its Jharsuguda plant and deploying women in key smelting and production functions through structured training programmes. The organisation has also introduced an all-women locomotive engine crew and expanded Agnivahini, its women-led firefighting squad, to more than 100 trained members.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Metals and mining will play a defining role in India’s low-carbon future, and it is essential that women are equal participants in shaping this transformation. At Vedanta Aluminium, we believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just cultural values, but strategic strengths that make our business more innovative, resilient, and future-ready. ‘TarakkiKiTaiyaari’ aims at making the industry a preferred career destination for women. Our commitment to achieving 30 per cent women’s representation by 2030 is a tangible step toward that vision.”
Throughout March, the company will organise town halls, recognition programmes, wellness sessions and cultural activities. Community outreach at mining locations such as Jamkhani, Ghogharapalli and Kuraloi is expected to engage more than 1,700 women through health camps and local celebrations.
A film highlighting the company’s diversity journey is also scheduled to be released on 8 March as part of the campaign. Through these initiatives, Vedanta Aluminium aims to strengthen opportunities for women while building a more inclusive industrial workforce.
