Vedanta, in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has launched a Basic Life Support (BLS) training programme aimed at strengthening workplace and community safety. The initiative commenced at Hindustan Zinc’s Rajpura Dariba Complex (RDC) campus in Udaipur with a three-day programme focused on women leaders, and will gradually extend to all employees across Vedanta’s businesses.
The training, conducted by NDRF experts, equipped participants with critical emergency-response skills, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) usage, bleeding and shock management, musculoskeletal injury care, and patient shifting protocols. Leaders from Hindustan Zinc, Vedanta Aluminium, FACOR, ESL Steel, Cairn Oil and Gas, Vedanta Power, and Sesa Goa took part in the inaugural phase.
Highlighting the urgency of such interventions, Vedanta noted that India is witnessing a surge in cardiovascular emergencies, with heart attacks increasingly affecting younger populations. Trained first responders can play a decisive role in saving lives during such crises.
Speaking at the inauguration, Priya Agarwal Hebbar, chairperson, Hindustan Zinc and non-executive director of Vedanta, said, “At Vedanta, safety is not just a policy, it is who we are. Through this programme, we aim to equip all our employees with life-saving skills that extend beyond the workplace into their homes and communities. Starting with women leaders, each participant becomes a multiplier of safety, building resilience within society.”
Alongside skill development, Vedanta continues to deploy advanced technologies such as AI-led monitoring systems, drones, fatigue- detection systems, smart helmets, and tele-remote operations to enhance industrial safety across its operations. The BLS initiative builds on these efforts, embedding a culture of safety and resilience that extends beyond the workplace.
