Viral Reddit post highlights early-career struggles in NCR

A recent post on Reddit has brought attention to the growing frustration among young professionals navigating their early careers in India’s corporate sector. The account, shared by an employee based in Delhi NCR, reflects concerns around stagnant pay, restrictive contracts, and limited mobility in a challenging job market.

According to the post, the individual joined a multinational company in 2024 as an intern and later transitioned into a full-time software-engineering role with an annual package of Rs 4.25 lakh. However, the take-home salary was lower than expected, and financial growth since then has been minimal. The employee claimed that the first year saw a negligible salary revision, while the second year brought no increment at all, leaving earnings unchanged over two years.

The situation is compounded by contractual constraints. The employee reported being bound by a two-year service agreement, with a penalty of Rs 1.5 lakh for early exit. A six-month notice period further limits the ability to switch roles, effectively reducing flexibility in an already tight job market.

Work conditions described in the post include long hours, weekend duties, and travel for client-related tasks without reimbursement. Additional deductions, such as transport costs, have added to the financial strain.

The employee also pointed to internal challenges, including project-related issues that may have affected performance ratings and career progression. Despite continuing to meet work expectations, the overall sentiment expressed is one of being stuck, underpaid, and unable to build savings.

The post has resonated with many online, highlighting broader concerns around compensation practices, employee mobility, and the pressures faced by early-career professionals in today’s workforce.
