Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) has launched the Rooftop Solar Training Academy to develop a skilled workforce for India’s growing renewable energy sector, beginning with a batch of 33 women from Gujarat.
The academy aims to equip participants with practical skills in rooftop solar installation, operations and maintenance, preparing them for employment opportunities in the clean energy industry.
According to PDEU, the Indo-Australia Rooftop Solar Academy was conceived following discussions between the Prime Ministers of India and Australia in November 2024. The initiative is intended to strengthen bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, clean technology and workforce development.
The academy has been established with support from the Australian government’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. It has been developed in collaboration with ReNew and the Skill Council for Green Jobs under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
The programme is reportedly a flagship initiative that reflects the expanding partnership between India and Australia in the clean-energy sector. Furthermore, participants completing the programme will receive certification from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, enhancing their employability in the renewable energy ecosystem.
The University also announced that the next batch of trainees will comprise students from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), expanding the programme’s reach and supporting the development of skilled talent for India’s energy transition.
