The Assam government has launched a new insurance policy to provide better financial security for state- government employees. This policy, approved by the Assam Cabinet, offers life and disability insurance at no extra cost to the employees.
Under this new plan, each state employee will get Rs 10 lakh in life insurance, which will increase to Rs 1 crore if they die in an accident. In cases of complete disability, the insurance cover will be Rs 1 crore, while in case of partial disability it will be Rs 80 lakh.
These insurance benefits are an extra safety net in addition to what employees already receive. This shows the government’s effort to take care of its employees in case of illness, death, or disability. Additionally, the plan is part of a wider strategy to protect employees by giving them better insurance coverage and making sure they have financial security.
The Cabinet decided that this insurance will be provided without any payment from the employees. This is possible through an agreement with the State Bank of India or other banks where employees have their salary accounts. All state- government employees will automatically get this insurance without needing to apply separately.
In addition to the insurance plan, the Assam government announced other measures. The government will provide bonuses to employees and workers at Assam Tea Corporation (ATCL) tea gardens before the Durga Puja festival. A budget of Rs 78.13 crore has been set aside to give a 20 per cent bonus to eligible workers, offering them financial support during the festive season.
