The Walt Disney Company is expanding its internal use of artificial intelligence (AI) with a new tool that gives employees visibility into how AI is being used across teams. The company has rolled out an “AI Adoption Dashboard” for select technology staff, offering detailed insights into usage patterns of tools such as Cursor and Claude.
The dashboard presents data on how many employees are actively using AI, the volume of requests made, and the number of tokens consumed over specific periods. It also highlights top users, effectively creating a ranking system based on activity levels. Some employees have described it as a leaderboard that informally compares AI usage across teams.
The visibility has sparked a growing internal trend often referred to as “tokenmaxxing.” This involves engineers pushing for higher usage of AI tools, sometimes making hundreds of requests daily and consuming millions of tokens. While this behaviour reflects growing adoption, it has also raised concerns around efficiency and cost management.
The company’s intent, however, appears focused on optimisation rather than competition. The dashboard is designed to help teams better understand and manage AI usage, rather than reward excessive consumption. Managers are encouraging employees to integrate AI more actively into their workflows, signalling a broader cultural shift toward adoption.
In some cases, extremely high usage levels have been linked to automated systems or AI agents operating at scale. Employees familiar with the system indicate that usage limits are flexible, with additional capacity provided when required.
Disney’s approach reflects a wider industry trend. Companies such as Meta and Visa have also experimented with internal tracking of AI usage as they scale adoption. As leadership continues to refine its AI strategy, internal tools such as this dashboard are becoming central to how organisations measure and manage AI integration.
