Police have registered an FIR against five women caregivers following allegations of child abuse at a daycare centre operating on the Capgemini HAL campus in Bengaluru. The investigation was launched after videos allegedly showing the mistreatment of toddlers surfaced online and were reported to the Child Helpline.
According to the police, the complaint is based on video footage purportedly recorded inside the childcare facility, where employees leave their young children during working hours. The children involved are reportedly between two and three years old.
The complaint alleges that caregivers physically assaulted and intimidated children who cried or became restless. The videos are also said to depict several instances of alleged abuse, including threatening toddlers, confining them in bathrooms and subjecting them to other forms of mistreatment. Police said the authenticity of the footage and the allegations are being investigated.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. The accused caregivers are yet to be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident came to light after the videos began circulating on WhatsApp on Monday, prompting authorities to initiate action. Police have not yet disclosed further details about the investigation or whether additional charges may be added.
The alleged incident has raised concerns about safety standards and oversight at workplace childcare facilities. As more organisations provide daycare services to support working parents, the case underscores the importance of stringent background verification, continuous monitoring of caregivers and robust child protection mechanisms to ensure a safe environment for employees’ children.
The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations are yet to be tested in court.
