A former IndiGo ground staff employee has alleged that he resigned after being asked by a senior official to touch his supervisor’s feet as an apology for reporting to work without wearing a tie.
In a video shared on Instagram, Mohammad Jamshid Y, who worked at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, claimed the incident occurred during a routine inspection at the airport’s Terminal 1.
According to Jamshid, a senior official questioned him for not wearing a tie as part of his uniform. He said he acknowledged the mistake, apologised and assured the official that it would not happen again.
Jamshid alleged that the official then questioned his supervisor for allowing him to enter the terminal without complying with the dress code. After apologising to his supervisor, he claims he was instructed to touch her feet as a gesture of apology. He said he refused, describing the demand as humiliating and inappropriate in a professional workplace.
Following his refusal, Jamshid alleged that he was asked to leave the terminal. While admitting that forgetting to wear the tie was his mistake, he maintained that any disciplinary action should have been handled professionally and respectfully.
According to Jamshid, he later lodged a complaint with IndiGo’s ethics and compliance department. He said the airline investigated the matter but informed him that it could not verify his presence at the terminal on the day of the alleged incident based on available CCTV footage. Dissatisfied with the outcome, he said he decided to resign.
The video has since attracted widespread attention on social media, with many users discussing workplace dignity and respectful treatment of employees. Several users also called for a thorough investigation into the allegations.
IndiGo has not publicly responded to the claims. The allegations remain unverified.
