SMA Solar Technology AG has announced an expansion of its restructuring and transformation programme, which will see a further reduction of approximately 350 jobs worldwide by the end of 2026. The decision follows continued softness in demand and significant price pressure within the Home & Business Solutions (HBS) division, particularly in Germany.
The company plans to strengthen its Large-Scale & Project Solutions business while repositioning the HBS division for long-term sustainability. Its revised strategy includes optimising R&D spending by consolidating product lines and leveraging its competence centre in India, increasing international production capacities with a focus on Poland, and enhancing service efficiency through improved turnaround times and reduced operational costs.
SMA will also streamline its corporate functions and withdraw from less profitable markets to maintain balance between divisions. The company’s renewed focus on its core competencies — including quality and cybersecurity — aims to secure overall performance and competitiveness.
While SMA tightens operations in Europe, it continues to expand internationally, marking its return to manufacturing in the US through a collaboration with Create Energy to produce string inverters. These measures are designed to create a leaner, more efficient organisation capable of adapting to global market challenges.
