The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) has sanctioned a festival advance of Rs 20,000 for eligible employees working at its retail outlets, along with an annual uniform allowance of Rs 6,000.
Under the uniform allowance, eligible employees will receive Rs 2,000 per set, including the cost of cloth and stitching, for three sets of uniforms each year.
The measures were detailed in an order issued by K Nanthakumar, managing director, Tasmac, who has instructed senior regional managers to implement them. The decisions follow an announcement made by the state’s prohibition and excise minister in the Assembly on 31 August.
The festival advance will be interest-free and can be availed for any one religious festival chosen by the employee. The eligible festivals include Pongal, Deepavali, Christmas, Ramzan and Bakrid, as well as other festivals permitted by the government.
The advance will be recovered through instalments, with the recovery continuing without interruption until the full amount is repaid.
The uniform allowance will cover shop supervisors, salesmen and assistant salesmen working at Tasmac retail vending shops. For the 2026-27 financial year, eligibility will be determined based on the date on which the allowance is released.
The uniform allowance is intended to ensure a consistent and professional appearance for employees working at Tasmac retail outlets.
Separately, Tasmac is planning to make digital payments mandatory for consumers purchasing liquor worth more than Rs 500.
