The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams is moving to strengthen employee welfare by accelerating infrastructure work in its residential layouts at Padiredu and Pagili (Andhra Pradesh). The plan focuses on laying bitumen roads and installing underground power systems to improve living conditions in these staff housing schemes.
At Padiredu, located in Vadamalapeta mandal, land distribution was carried out in two phases ahead of the 2024 elections. Over 5,000 plots were allotted after acquiring around 350 acres. Each plot measures 50 _ankanams_. Initial development work, including land levelling, drainage systems, and layout marking, has already been completed. High-tension power lines were also shifted to make the area suitable for housing. However, further progress slowed during the election period.
For employees and pensioners who could not be accommodated in earlier phases, additional land was secured at Pagili in Yerpedu mandal. Nearly 300 acres were purchased for this purpose. Plot allocation here followed a strict seniority system, with beneficiaries contributing towards land and development costs.
The housing initiative is part of a long-running programme first launched in 1985, which has provided homes across multiple locations over the years. Employees are now pressing for faster completion of basic amenities and have suggested a revised development approach to speed up execution.
The matter is set to be reviewed by the TTD Trust Board in its upcoming meeting. A final decision could pave the way for improved housing infrastructure for thousands of staff members.
