Vedanta, one of India’s largest natural resources and technology conglomerates, is making youth power central to its growth strategy. With 40 per cent of its workforce under 30 and an average employee age of 33, the company is among the youngest in its league.
The group combines the agility of a startup with the scale of a global enterprise, creating a workplace that attracts young engineers, innovators and future leaders. Each year, Vedanta hires close to 2,000 fresh graduates from top institutes such as IITs and IIMs. More than 3,000 young leaders have been nurtured under its structured talent- management programmes.
Anil Agarwal, chairman, describes Vedanta as a “late-stage start-up” with an ever-growing appetite for innovation and bold thinking. He urged greater involvement of young employees, especially women, in shaping the company’s future. “Let’s involve our youngsters more in shaping the company’s future – particularly our young women, who will be game-changers. We are living in disruptive times, and to capture opportunities, we must think differently and act boldly. This is India’s time. This is Vedanta’s time,” he added.
The flagship Vedanta Leadership Development Programme gives campus hires accelerated exposure to multiple roles, functions, and businesses, preparing them for CXO-level responsibilities early in their careers. Another initiative, V-Aspire, uses AI-powered virtual interview bots to identify high-potential talent, resulting in over 500 emerging leaders being recognised across business units.
In a move rare in corporate India, Vedanta’s Employee Stock Options Scheme extends to entry-level professionals, fostering a culture of ownership. The company also participates in the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, offering over 1,100 internships in its first phase.
Beyond its offices, Vedanta has trained nearly 15 lakh rural youth in market-ready skills over the past five years, helping them secure sustainable livelihoods. With strong diversity and inclusion policies and multiple workplace awards, Vedanta is positioning itself as an employer of choice for India’s next generation.
