Coursera, the global online learning platform, has roped in Ashutosh Gupta as its new managing director for India and the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. This strategic appointment comes at a time when demand for digital skills, micro-credentials and AI-powered learning is rapidly expanding across Asia.
In his new role, Gupta will lead Coursera’s enterprise operations across APAC, focusing on partnerships with businesses, universities and governments. His goal will be to drive regional growth by helping institutions equip students, professionals and citizens with in-demand digital and AI-related skills.
Gupta brings over 20 years of leadership experience across India and Southeast Asia. He has worked extensively in scaling digital businesses and guiding strategic transformation. Prior to joining Coursera, he was an operating partner at Avataar Ventures, where he advised SaaS companies on go-to-market strategies and revenue acceleration. He also served as country manager for LinkedIn India, where he led localisation efforts and expanded marketing solutions across the region.
His earlier roles at Google, Cognizant and Infosys involved leading transformation programmes and managing high-value client relationships. With an MBA from IIM Lucknow and a BTech from IIT BHU under his belt, Gupta combines technical expertise with strong business acumen.
“I’m thrilled to join Coursera at such a pivotal time for the region,” said Gupta. “Having worked closely with institutions across the region, I’ve seen the value of trusted, flexible and job-relevant learning first hand. I’m excited to build on Coursera’s mission and help more learners unlock opportunity at scale,” he added.
“Ashutosh’s deep experience in the region and his work with mission-driven organisations make him an ideal leader to drive Coursera’s next phase of growth in Asia Pacific,” said Karine Allouche, general manager, enterprise, Coursera.
Gupta’s leadership is expected to strengthen Coursera’s position as a key player in shaping the future of work and education in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
