Gurugram employee alleges manager spied on LinkedIn job searches

An employee in Gurugram has alleged that their senior manager monitored team members’ LinkedIn activity and confronted them for exploring new job opportunities, raising concerns about workplace privacy and professional boundaries.

Posting on the Indian Workplace subreddit, the employee claimed that even after most staff members had blocked the manager on LinkedIn, he found ways to access their profiles through Google searches. According to the account, the manager later interrogated employees, accusing them of disloyalty for indicating interest in new roles.

The situation reportedly escalated when employees who participated in professional conferences and competitions on their own time and at their own expense were also branded as “traitors”. Despite no organisational support for such events, the manager allegedly suggested their involvement reflected poorly on their commitment.

Reddit users strongly criticised the conduct, with some calling it invasive and stalker-like. Several advised employees to block supervisors and HR personnel on LinkedIn to avoid similar scrutiny, while others pointed to deeper red flags. Restricting career- development opportunities, they noted, was a sign of a toxic workplace culture.

Community members largely urged the employee and colleagues to leave, warning that such behaviour reflected not leadership but paranoia and control. Many concluded that staying under such management may lead to career stagnation and further hostility.
