Mahindra & Mahindra is planning a dedicated skilling centre in Nagpur to prepare local talent for its upcoming integrated automobile and tractor- manufacturing facility. The initiative will build a pipeline of technically- trained workers as the company moves ahead with the development of the 1,500-acre project.
The company is expected to take possession of the first tranche of around 800 acres at *Additional Butibori*. The proposed skilling centre will train prospective employees in manufacturing disciplines such as mechanical operations, welding and painting.
Mahindra will announce details of the workforce it plans to hire, along with job opportunities and the selection process, as the project moves forward. The workforce- development programme is expected to run alongside the construction and commissioning of the facility.
The greenfield plant, announced earlier this year, is planned to become Mahindra’s largest integrated manufacturing facility in India. Once fully operational, it is expected to have an annual production capacity of more than five lakh vehicles and one lakh tractors.
The company is also looking to build capabilities for manufacturing vehicles and tractors across different powertrains and emerging automotive technologies. This will require workers with specialised technical skills as manufacturing processes evolve.
Mahindra also plans to create opportunities for experienced employees from its existing manufacturing facilities. Over the next two to three years, eligible employees will be able to participate in a selection process for roles at the Nagpur plant.
The selection process will assess technical expertise, workplace behaviour, alignment with the company’s values and collaboration skills.
The project is expected to create a significant manufacturing and employment base in the Vidarbha region. In addition, Mahindra is planning a 150-acre supplier park in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The park will supply components to the Nagpur facility as well as the company’s existing plants in Chakan and Nashik.
Together, the Nagpur facility and supplier ecosystem are expected to strengthen Mahindra’s manufacturing footprint in Maharashtra while creating new opportunities for skilled talent in the region.
