Amazon’s AI push leaves employees spending more time fixing errors

According to several current and former employees, AI tools introduced for coding, analysis and documentation frequently produce incomplete or incorrect results

Employees at Amazon say the company’s rapid adoption of artificial intelligence across corporate teams is creating unexpected challenges. Many workers report that instead of speeding up work, AI tools are adding extra steps. Staff members say they are spending significant time reviewing and correcting inaccurate outputs generated by internal AI systems.

According to several current and former employees, AI tools introduced for coding, analysis and documentation frequently produce incomplete or incorrect results. As a result, workers must carefully review the outputs, edit them or sometimes discard them entirely. This process often extends the time required to complete tasks. Instead of simplifying work, employees say the technology has added layers of verification and debugging.

Some engineers say their roles have shifted significantly. Developers who once focused on writing new code now spend large portions of their time checking machine-generated code for errors. Internal tools designed to assist with software development sometimes generate incorrect or fabricated code segments. Engineers then need to manually examine and repair these outputs before they can be used.

Employees in other departments report similar experiences. In supply chain and operational roles, workers say AI tools occasionally provide useful suggestions. However, they also note that the systems often require repeated checks to ensure accuracy. In many cases, verifying the AI’s output takes longer than completing the task independently.

The pressure to adopt AI has also increased across teams. Employees say managers frequently ask whether tasks can be completed with AI tools. Some workers believe this expectation has led to rushed implementation of experimental systems that are still developing.

The complaints come during a period of major restructuring at Amazon. The company has reduced thousands of corporate roles while simultaneously investing heavily in AI infrastructure and automation technologies.

As companies experiment with generative AI in office work, Amazon’s experience highlights the early challenges of integrating automation into complex professional tasks. For many employees, the long-term impact of the shift remains unclear.
