Enterprise-process intelligence company, Celonis has more than doubled its India workforce to over 300 employees from around 140 last year, as the company strengthens the country’s role in its global operations.
Most of the employees are based in Bengaluru, with hiring expanding particularly across engineering and customer-facing roles. The company is also building capabilities across pre-sales and post-sales functions that work closely with customers.
Celonis plans to continue expanding its India team, with the workforce expected to become an increasingly important part of its global engineering operations. The company sees India as a strategic location not only for engineering but also for several other functions.
The hiring strategy is also changing as AI becomes more deeply embedded across the business. Rather than limiting AI hiring to specialised technology roles, Celonis is increasingly looking for applied AI capabilities across product, engineering, value engineering and other functions.
This means employees are increasingly expected to understand how AI can be applied to their respective roles and use AI tools to improve the speed and effectiveness of their work.
India’s role is also expected to extend beyond supporting the local market. Celonis currently has operations in the country spanning product and engineering, value engineering, support and services. The company sees the India team potentially becoming a central hub for several global activities over the coming years.
The expansion comes as Indian enterprises increase their focus on AI-led transformation. Celonis sees growing demand for process intelligence as companies look to understand how their systems, data and business processes operate before deploying AI agents across the organisation.
For Celonis, the rapid expansion of its India workforce therefore reflects more than a headcount increase. The company is positioning the country as a larger part of its global talent strategy, with engineering and applied AI capabilities at the centre of that expansion.
