Rahuraman Venkatachalam has been elevated to vice president – HR, enterprise learning and development at HCLTech, taking on an expanded leadership mandate focused on enterprise learning, capability building and talent development.
Venkatachalam brings more than two decades of HR experience across technology, banking and financial services, and media and entertainment, with a career spanning HR business partnering, talent management, employee engagement, leadership development and organisational transformation.
He moves into the new role after serving as associate vice president – human resources, engineering and R&D services at HCLTech, a position he held since August 2021. In this role, he was responsible for the people agenda for the company’s engineering and R&D organisation and worked on talent strategy for a large-scale business unit.
His elevation marks a broader shift from business-aligned HR leadership into an enterprise-wide learning and development mandate at HCLTech.
Before joining HCLTech, Venkatachalam was AVP – HR at Cognizant Technology Solutions India, where he served as the HR leader for the digital engineering global delivery organisation between January 2018 and May 2021.
Prior to Cognizant, he spent close to three years with Barclays as vice president – HRBP lead. He had earlier served as head HR – HRBP function, southern region at Bennett, Coleman and Co. (Times Group).
Venkatachalam also spent more than five years with Wipro Technologies, from 2008 to 2013. His responsibilities included talent engagement and development for technology infrastructure services across multiple locations, alongside his role as senior manager – human resources.
Earlier in his career, he spent nearly nine years with Tata Consultancy Services, where he worked across global HR assignments, including a generalist role in the US, PCMM-based process improvement and HR leadership at the delivery-centre level.
Across these roles, Venkatachalam has built experience in talent strategy, executive coaching and leadership development, performance management, career architecture, rewards, employee engagement and retention. His experience also includes leading HR teams across global regions and driving large-scale change initiatives.
At HCLTech, his new mandate brings these areas together with a stronger focus on enterprise learning and development, positioning him to work on capability building and talent development at an organisation-wide level.
With experience across India, North America, the UK and APAC, Venkatachalam’s career reflects a progression from delivery-centre HR and business partnering into senior talent, HR and organisational capability roles. His elevation to VP HR – enterprise learning and development at HCLTech marks the latest step in that journey, with learning and capability now at the centre of his enterprise-wide remit.
