HDFC Life Insurance has appointed Vijay Vaidyanathan as its chief human resources officer (CHRO), elevating a long-serving executive to lead the insurer’s people and talent strategy. The appointment will take effect on 1 April, 2026.

Vaidyanathan will join the senior management team and oversee the insurer’s human resources strategy, talent management and organisational-development initiatives at one of India’s largest private life insurers.

Vaidyanathan has been associated with HDFC Life since June 2001 and brings more than two decades of experience within the organisation. Over the years, he has held leadership roles across several business functions including group sales, bancassurance, retail strategy and sales, high-net-worth individual (HNI) distribution and alternate channels.

He most recently served as group head–key alliances (Bancassurance), where he led strategic partnerships with major banking institutions across India and focused on strengthening productivity and capability across partner-facing teams. Earlier in his career, he helped develop the company’s HNI sales vertical and contributed to expanding its retail distribution ecosystem.

Beyond his business responsibilities, Vaidyanathan has also been actively involved in internal culture and engagement initiatives. He previously led the company’s employee wellness and well-being resource group and served on the talent council, contributing to leadership development and workforce engagement programmes.

His strengths lie in building high-performance teams, developing leadership capability and aligning business strategy with organisational culture. Beyond his business responsibilities, Vaidyanathan has also been actively involved in internal culture and engagement initiatives. He previously led the company’s employee wellness and well-being resource group and served on the talent council, contributing to leadership development and workforce-engagement programmes.

Vaidyanathan holds a postgraduate diploma in business administration with a focus on finance and marketing from the University of Mumbai and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Madras.

The appointment reflects HDFC Life’s focus on strengthening HR leadership as the insurance industry navigates digital transformation, evolving customer expectations and increasing competition for specialised talent.
