Uber has appointed Jay Shankar as vice president, global talent acquisition, where she will lead the company’s global recruiting strategy as it continues to scale its workforce across businesses and geographies.
Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Shankar said she was drawn to Uber by its people, ambitious vision, and strong focus on hiring. She wrote how she “wasn’t looking for just another opportunity” but “for a place where I could continue learning, build alongside great people, and help shape the future.”
Shankar joins Uber after spending nearly eight years at Amazon, where she held several senior talent acquisition leadership roles. Most recently, she served as vice president, global talent acquisition, leading talent acquisition transformation and global corporate recruiting across businesses including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Advertising, IMDb, Devices and Services (Alexa, Ring, Zoox and Project Kuiper), Artificial General Intelligence, Prime Video, Amazon Music, and Amazon Studios.
Prior to Amazon, Shankar spent over three years at Adobe, where she led global customer experience and customer care functions for its Digital Experience and Digital Media businesses.
Earlier, she served in senior leadership positions at Innovative Interfaces, including senior vice president – customer support and R&D, and senior vice president – services and support, where she led global support, engineering, IT, professional services, and recurring revenue functions.
She also spent more than 11 years at BMC Software, progressing through multiple leadership roles.
Shankar began her leadership journey with roles at Extricity and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
She holds an MBA in Marketing from Penn State University and has completed an Executive Programme at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
